For over a decade and a half, I have worked in the disability/ employment profession. However for nearly 11 years, I have focused my career specifically in the area of Mental Health/ Substance Use. Currently employed as an Employment Support Worker with Canadian Mental Health Association Mid-Island, the Employment Program plays a significant role in the form of treatment.
The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model is a framework that is used to provide supported employment to individuals with Mental Health Disorders and Substance Use to secure and maintain employment. As a Certified IPS Specialist I am trained to apply this practice.
Throughout the years, I have collaborated with Occupational Therapists, Probation Officers (British Columbia Community Corrections-Nanaimo), Case Managers (Island Health - Brooks Landing), Assertive Community Treatment (Island Health - Wentworth), Forensic Nurses, Indigenous Service Providers, Deaf & Hard Of Hearing, Nanaimo Brain Injury, non-profit organizations and local businesses in the community.
